Nutrition

Getting in the zone starts with looking closely at what you eat and why you eat it as well as when and how.

What is Nutrition and why is it important?

Nutrition is the process by which we assimilate food and use it for growth, repair and maintenance and to nourish our bodies. It stands to reason then that if we are to grow, repair and maintain the body, we need to provide it with the optimal – the most nutritious – foods.

Good nutrition means your body is getting all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals it needs to work at its best level but deciding which are the most nutritious foods can seem incredibly confusing.

In fact, when it’s all distilled, the guidelines for a healthy diet are quite simple – eat a wide variety of unprocessed foods, rich in vitamins and minerals that help you feel nourished and energised – yet, of course, still taste delicious! Natural, whole foods – like vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins – give your body the vitamins it needs to function effectively. We have energy when we eat well, and when we have energy, we burn fat.

Eating well also enables us to keep our blood pressure and cholesterol levels in the healthy ranges and keeps our bodies are full of disease fighting anti-oxidants.

Fuel Your Fitness

Fitness and nutrition really do go hand in hand. What you eat and when can make a big difference in your performance and recovery and can be the difference between achieving your goals and not. If you are exercising regularly you need to ensure that what you are eating provides your body with enough energy to take on the challenge. This often depends upon your unique goals and preferences, and any nutrition plans should designed according to the intensity, length and type of fitness programme you plan to do.
