Why are goals important?

Getting what you want doesn’t always come easily. More often than not, you’ve got to work hard to achieve the results you desire. Often, those who have achieved something they have set out for, have done so because they have had clear goals and objectives.

Goals help to create desire, energy, focus and determination and also provide a measure of how well you are progressing.

How to set your goals?

Achievable goals are goals that are well thought out; goals that match who you are, what you do and what you would like to achieve and so before you set a fitness or lifestyle goal, there are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself. Think about what, in life, is important to you, and what you are willing to give up. For example, if you don’t have too much time on your hands, then training for an ultra marathon may not be the best goal for you.

Ask yourself what you would want your ideal day to look like. This will help you determine if your goals will realistically fit into your lifestyle without too many changes. Have a think about what your strengths are too. A goal that taps into and utilises your strengths is a much better bet than one that doesn’t.

Knowing that all your hard work is paying off is always going to help make any goal seem more achievable. Fitness testing isn’t only for athlete and doesn’t have to be scary. At the Zone, we integrate simple and fun fitness tests and challenges in to our classes each month, to ensure that you stay motivated and focused and to make sure your goals can be measured and amended when necessary.

Once you have your fitness test results or are beginning to see changes to your shape or fitness level, you need to review and revise your goals accordingly. Reviewing your goals and analyzing fitness test results can help create motivation and drive when you see the results of all your hard work.
