Strength & Tone

Challenging your muscles with strength training (also called resistance training) exercises 2 or 3 times each week is all that is needed to improve the strength and tone of your muscles

Why tone up?

Life today sees many of us sitting for long stints during the day, every day. Our muscles pay the price: the stiffness of joints and the weakening of muscles that we sometimes blame on ageing are often a direct effect of inactivity.

Making the effort to tone your muscles will also mean you have stronger muscles. Strong muscles are firmer, look better and, most importantly, can help you avoid injury. Doing strength training exercises can also increase your lean body mass, which subsequently raises your metabolic rate helping with weight management. A kilo of muscle will burn 50 to 100 calories a day at rest whereas a kilo of fat will use up only about 5 to 7 calories a day.

Functional Strength Training

Our Zone Strength Classes, focus on functional strength and body weight training – one of the most practical and efficient strength training methods. A functional strength training workout involves performing compound exercises designed to enhance the relationship between your body’s muscular and nervous systems.  Doing so can help you more efficiently undertake motions such as pushing, pulling, climbing, walking, sprinting, jumping, twisting, turning, etc.  Functional strength training is not just done to improve your appearance, but to help you get better at regular day to day activities.
